Sen. Lamar Alexander’s Vote Looms Large in Determining if Senate Will Have Impeachment Witnesses

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) could play a key role in deciding if witnesses will be called during the Senate impeachment hearing of President Donald Trump.

Fox News reported Tuesday that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he does not have enough votes to block impeachment witnesses. The Senate’s will vote on Friday whether or not to allow witnesses to testify.

Democrats need four Republicans to vote against party lines and vote for witnesses. One of the people still undecided and being targeted by liberals is Alexander. The Republican senator told reporters Monday that he would make his decision after the question and answer portion of the trial ended Thursday, according to the New York Post.

“After we’ve heard all the arguments, after we’ve heard the questions and the answers to the questions, after we’ve studied the record, then we’ll have that vote. And at that time I will make a decision about whether we need additional evidence,” he said.

Tom Ingram, Alexander’s former chief of staff, told NBC News that “you can’t predict him.”

“He will hold his counsel, make his own decision and you won’t be sure of it until he makes it known in due course,” he said.

Yes, Every Kid

Last week, The Hill reported that Alexander, who is retiring at the end of the year, had concerns about the Ukrainian aid being withheld.

Alexander has taken the direct opposite approach compared to his fellow Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn on the Senate impeachment hearings. While he remains mysterious and quiet about the matter, Blackburn has been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters.

On Wednesday, the first time senator published an opinion piece in the Tennessean where she discredited the Democrat’s impeachment efforts.

“As we speak, the Democratic House managers are panicking over a sudden need for new information. Make no mistake, their demand for witnesses is a trap, and the bait is pure temptation — a “need to know” meant to lure America into a constitutional crisis,” she wrote.

As this important Senate vote looms, the president weighed in on Twitter about potential witnesses being called Tuesday night.

“No matter how many witnesses you give the Democrats, no matter how much information is given, like the quickly produced Transcripts, it will NEVER be enough for them, he said. “They will always scream UNFAIR. The Impeachment Hoax is just another political CON JOB!”

Oh! For the Love of God! I do not trust Lamar Alexander to do the right thing and stop the witnesses. The House is where the witnesses were all supposed to be called. The Senate doesn’t have to clean up the errors made by the House in who they called in. This thing needs to be shut down. Our magnificent President is getting so much done for this country. He really needs to be given support. We all need to hold him up high so that he can keep winning for America. The Dems must be nail-biting nervous because 175,000 people in NJ wanted seats at the Trump rally there. An all time record for Trump! Pray that Lamar will support the President and close down this farce of a trial.

Who knows what demons Lamar has been pursuing these last few years that have caused him to side with Democrats so often. I wait with great anticipation to see what he does next. Lets pray for his wisdom on this issue and dismiss this impeachment quickly.

And BTW, President Trump has asked Tennesseans to send Ambassador Bill Hagerty to the Senate from Tennessee. After all the President has been through why would we send anyone else? Just not seeing it, sorry. No doubt Dr. Sethi is a nice person. Perhaps he can run for State Representative? A very honorable and responsible position and well worth his talents.

I expect Alexander will vote for more witnesses based on his past progressive voting record. Time will tell. I hope the Tennessee voters will have more sense in the coming Republican Primary and vote for the true Conservative in the race, Manny Sethi. They should keep in mind the past history of Hagerty who supported Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio on the 2016 presidential primary.

If I wanted I-140 funded and finished to my door step, I would not go against a man like Mitch McConnell, whose wife just happens to be Secretary of Transportation, USDoT. Just sayin’. I think Lamar will come around. I will also vote for Manny in the primaries.

Update: Lamar just came around to McConnell’s way of thinking. He announced just now “No more evidence or witnesses needed.”
